University of Fairfax Awarded Title IV Eligibility, Expanding Access to Federal Financial Aid

Salem, VA – November 18, 2025 – The University of Fairfax is proud to announce that it has been granted eligibility to participate in Title IV federal financial aid programs. This milestone marks a significant step forward in expanding educational access and affordability for current and future students.

Founded to meet the evolving needs of working professionals and the growing demand for cybersecurity expertise following the events of September 11, the University of Fairfax offers flexible online programs that combine academic rigor with practical, real-world application. Over time, the University has expanded beyond its cybersecurity roots to include programs in software development, computer science and engineering, cloud computing, and business—reflecting the University’s dedication to preparing leaders across the technology and innovation landscape.

Title IV eligibility allows the University to offer federal student aid—including grants and loans—to qualifying students beginning with the January 12, 2026 academic term. This achievement reflects the University’s steadfast commitment to compliance with federal regulations, financial accountability, and student support.

“This recognition from the U.S. Department of Education is a testament to the University of Fairfax’s dedication to academic excellence and institutional integrity,” said Dr. Umesh Varma, President of the University of Fairfax. “Title IV eligibility enhances our ability to serve students from diverse backgrounds by removing financial barriers and supporting their pursuit of advanced education in technology, cybersecurity, and related disciplines.”

With the addition of federal aid availability, students can now access greater financial flexibility as they advance their education and careers. Through a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and professional relevance, the University empowers learners to advance their careers and contribute to the protection and advancement of digital infrastructure worldwide.

In addition to expanding affordability, Title IV eligibility opens new pathways for collaboration with government and defense partners. This achievement positions the University to pursue a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Department of Defense, further aligning its programs with national workforce development needs in cybersecurity and information assurance. Moreover, Title IV status directly benefits veteran and active-duty military students by complementing VA education benefits and enabling broader financial aid options. It also provides flexibility for students seeking to defer existing federal student loans while advancing their education, offering much-needed relief for professionals balancing work, service, and academic growth.

The University of Fairfax’s participation in federal financial aid programs aligns with its mission to prepare professionals for leadership in critical, high-demand fields. By achieving Title IV eligibility, the University continues to strengthen its position as a trusted institution for graduate and doctoral education in the information technology and cybersecurity sectors.
